What happens when a small-town girl with a love of storytelling swaps her CPA spreadsheet for Southern sleuthing? You get Jann Franklin, cozy mystery author and the delightful mind behind Muffalettas and Murder.
We had the joy of sitting down with Jann during a recent ReaderCrate Book Club chat, and y’all… she’s just as charming as her characters.
Jann’s cozy mysteries are set in the fictional town of Graisseville, Louisiana — a place bursting with gossip, gumbo, and good-hearted chaos. But it’s not entirely made up.
Much of her inspiration comes from her real-life hometown of Grand Cane, LA — a village with fewer than 300 people, where everyone really knows everyone… and where yes, they have a town historian and even town characters.
As Jann puts it:
“It’s not based on real people… except when it is.”
Her mix of humor, heart, and small-town quirk makes Graisseville feel like a place you could visit — and maybe never want to leave.
Before she was writing murder mysteries, Jann was a CPA with a love for writing that wouldn’t go away. After years of blogging and writing humorous essays about small-town life, she made the jump to fiction — and never looked back.
Now, she writes full-time, tapping into her deep affection for community and her sharp eye for character-driven stories.
“You don’t realize when you live in a small town that it’s hilarious. But it is.”
